HVAC Technician position available in Johannesburg.
The HVAC Technician is primarily responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
The HVAC Technician may also be responsible for overseeing a small site or team on projects for a designated period to gain relevant skills and experience as a subject matter expert, according to job requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The HVAC Technician will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks / activities:
- Test and troubleshoot a variety of items based on specific trade expertise.
- Handle confidential and non-routine information.
- Coordinate with the process centre to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
- Inspect facilities, systems, and components to ensure safety (e.g., OSHA) and cleanliness, and identify necessary repairs.
- Install various items and system components, often of a complex nature, to maintain client safety, comfort, and operational condition.
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure availability and safe operation.
- Perform repair and maintenance activities within trade expertise areas.
- Prepare and maintain documentation such as work orders, repair records, purchase orders, and requisitions.
- Test and troubleshoot items to assess functionality and recommend repairs or replacements.
- Be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- Perform other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Foster a work atmosphere of trust and respect through open communication.
- Read wiring diagrams and perform electrical tasks.
- Manage key operational responsibilities including client liaison, customer requirements, quality of work, and completion of services.
- Complete technical service records and ensure all documentation is accurate and available.
- Accurately administer company documentation, including timesheets and vehicle records.
- Communicate with the helpdesk for feedback and support.
- Adhere to health and safety standards, ensuring safe working practices and equipment use.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
- Conduct maintenance, repair, and daily operational activities:
- Perform checks, testing, and repairs on equipment and control systems.
- Replace or repair defective parts, components, or wiring.
- Install and reassemble components for heating and cooling equipment, testing after service.
- Install minor works such as split units and perform alterations to plant and equipment.
- Ensure good housekeeping and compliance with safety policies.
- Contribute to procedural and policy improvements, maintaining high technical standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3-5 years of industry/service experience in a related field.
- Experience with commercial refrigeration.
- Knowledge of freezer rooms, cold rooms, package units, ice machines, chilled water systems, display chillers, and spit unit installations.
- Adherence to SLA and contractual service terms.
- 3-5 years of supervising staff.
- Ability to work independently.
- Red Seal Commercial Refrigeration Trade Certificate.
- Safe Handling Practitioner Certificate.
- Valid Driver's License.
