Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative HVAC Design Engineer to join its remote team, serving projects within Richards Bay, KwaZulu‑Natal. You will design and specify HVAC systems for commercial and industrial applications, ensuring energy efficiency and code compliance.

You will collaborate with architects, engineers, and managers, preparing detailed design documents and BOMs, while evaluating new technologies to improve performance and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years' HVAC design and engineering experience with thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
• Proficiency with HVAC design software: AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700.
• Knowledge of HVAC system types and their applications in industrial and commercial settings.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
• Experience working remotely and coordinating with geographically dispersed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for new constructions and retrofits; load calculations, equipment selection, and ductwork/piping layout.
• Prepare design documents: drawings, specifications, BOMs, and control strategies using industry-standard software.
• Ensure compliance with building codes and energy efficiency standards.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, and construction teams; provide technical support during installation.
• Conduct site visits in Richards Bay area for inspections and problem-solving.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative HVAC Design Engineer to join their growing team, remotely serving projects within the Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal region. This role is responsible for the design, specification, and integration of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a variety of commercial and industrial applications. You will leverage your expertise in thermal dynamics and system design to create efficient, reliable, and cost-effective HVAC solutions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to ensure that HVAC systems meet project requirements, building codes, and energy efficiency standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to contribute to impactful projects from a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC systems for new constructions and retrofits, including load calculations, equipment selection, and ductwork/piping layout.
• Prepare detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, BOMs , and control strategies using industry-standard software.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and energy efficiency regulations.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, and construction teams to review designs, address queries, and provide technical support during the installation phase.
• Conduct site visits (as required and feasible) for inspections and problem-solving, particularly for projects in the Richards Bay area.
• Evaluate new HVAC technologies and materials to improve system performance and sustainability.
