(This is a Contract Role)
The HR Operations Manager plays a strategic and operational role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of HR processes across the organization. Responsible for overseeing core HR services such as payroll, employee data management, HR systems, compliance, and HR policy implementation, this role ensures that HR practices align with company goals, South African labour laws, and best practices. The role also supports employee lifecycle management and contributes to continuous improvement across HR functions.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day HR operations including contracts, onboarding, terminations, leave administration, and employee records.
- Manage HRIS (Workday) and ensure accurate, confidential, and compliant employee data management.
- Drive operational efficiency across HR processes and support automation/digitisation where applicable.
Compliance and Risk
- Ensure compliance with South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EE Act, Skills Development Act, POPIA, etc.).
- Lead HR audits and ensure risk mitigation controls are in place.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, HR regulations, and governance frameworks.
HR Policy and Procedures
- Develop, review and implement HR policies and SOPs in alignment with local labour laws and organizational culture.
- Serve as a point of contact for policy-related queries and escalations.
Employee Relations Support
- Support line managers in resolving workplace issues and promoting a positive employee experience.
- Participate in disciplinary, grievance, and performance management processes where needed.
Reporting and Analytics
- Generate HR reports and dashboards (headcount, turnover, leave trends, etc.) for management reporting.
- Use data to support decision-making and strategic HR planning.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field
- Postgraduate qualification or HR certification (e.g., SABPP, IPM) is advantageous
Experience:
- 5–8 years of experience in a generalist or HR operations role, with at least 2–3 years in a management or supervisory capacity
- Experience working in a medium to large organization, preferably across multiple locations or regions
- Proven track record of managing HR compliance, audits, and systems implementation
