Job summary

A global leader in engineering seeks an HSSE Manager in Cape Town. You will lead HSSE management efforts, ensure compliance, and provide necessary training for site personnel. The ideal candidate has at least five years in Oil & Gas, NEBOSH certification, and excellent organizational and communication skills. Only applicants from Western Cape will be considered.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH and SAMTRAC certifications are mandatory.
  • Minimum of five years in refinery or Oil & Gas.
  • Experience managing contractor level work is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for HSSE management.
  • Communicate HSSE Procedures to all site personnel.
  • Conduct HSSE training for site personnel.
  • Assist in Task Risk Assessment processes.
  • Update management on HSSE performance.

Job description

Provide the leadership and support necessary to contribute towards efficient Health, Safety, Environmental and Security (HSSE) management. The main aims are to create secure, safe, and healthy working conditions throughout the site and to protect the environment during site establishment, construction, commissioning operations, and demobilization of the construction site and laydown areas.

Be aware of and communicate to all site personnel the contents of the HSSE Procedures and ensure that the associated HSSE plans are understood and implemented.

Ensure that the company and client safe working procedures and safe working practices are fully understood and effectively applied.

Provide HSSE training to site personnel in line with the HSSE induction booklet.

Keep the Resident Site Manager updated on HSSE performance and assist in HSSE reviews.

Assist the Resident Site Manager and the HOD Field Engineer in carrying out the Task Risk Assessment process.

Ensure all work is performed by suitably trained and competent persons.

Verify that statutory appointments are completed and statutory requirements are met.

Establish health and safety committees where required, hold meetings, and keep minutes properly filed.

Ensure all personnel are aware of hazards and are fully conversant with precautionary measures to mitigate dangers.

Knowledge, skills, and experience :
  • At least five (5) years of refinery or Oil & Gas experience
  • Experience with managing contractor level work
  • Previous experience at Astron is beneficial
  • Registered CHSO with SACPCMP
