Job description

Introduction

VRH Power, focusing on renewable energy and based in Centurion, is looking for a HSE Officertoimplement, monitor, and continuously improve Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance across all construction activities, in accordance with internal, legal, and client requirements.

Traveling to and staying on-sitewill be mandatory and depending on the residential location of the successful candidate, a living allowance will be granted to accommodate for traveling and time spend on site. It is not mandatory for the candidate to be from the Cape.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Site Compliance & Monitoring:
    • Enforce compliance in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993, Construction Regulations (2014), and client-specific HSE requirements.
    • Monitor and evaluate site safety performance across HV and OHL work areas.
    • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks.
    • Maintain and update site safety registers, records, and statistics.
  • Risk Management:
    • Assist in preparing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and fall protection plans.
    • Identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and potential hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
    • Support the development and implementation of permit-to-work (PTW) systems in line with client requirements.
  • Training & Awareness:
    • Conduct HSE inductions for all personnel and visitors.
    • Deliver safety awareness sessions on topics relevant to HV and OHL work (e.g., live-line safety, electrical isolation, working near energized lines, fall arrest systems).
    • Ensure workers are trained and competent in using PPE, harnesses, rescue kits, and other critical safety equipment.
  • Incident Management:
    • Investigate all incidents, accidents and near misses.
    • Report findings and recommendations to management and ensure corrective/preventive actions are tracked.
    • Maintain an incident register and ensure compliance with statutory reporting obligations.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports for internal use and client submission.
    • Maintain records of inspections, permits, safety meetings, training, and statutory compliance
    • Support the HSE team in reviewing the project’s Safety File for completeness and accuracy.
Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Requirements:

  • SACPCMP Registered
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent HSE qualification
  • Fall Protection Plan Developer (advantageous)
  • Incident Investigation Training (advantageous)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Safety Officer on construction projects
  • Experience working with Eskom or within the renewable energy sector (advantageous)
  • Sound knowledge of electrical hazards, and working at heights
