Main Purpose of the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a diligent, proactive Health and Safety professional to join our team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the adherence to HSE policies and procedures on site. Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for someone who is highly engaged and can communicate effectively with people at every level of the organisation. Previous experience in a food production environment is essential.
Qualifications and Experience:
- B-Tech / National Diploma in Environmental Health
- National Diploma in Food Technology or Food Science with supplementary HACCP and ISO 22000 implementation experience
- Occupational Health and Safety experience
- Minimum of 5 years industry experience in food production, food manufacturing, or auditing of food safety management systems
Key areas of responsibility:
- Manage at a contract level the company’s Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety Management systems.
- Work closely with onsite management teams, leading from the front and addressing unsafe behaviours and practices.
- Oversee and verify the housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitation in the facility.
- Verify the implementation of all Pre-Requisite Programmes and work closely with the facilities teams to address maintenance issues.
- Implement and monitor the Personnel Hygiene Programme and ensure alignment with site and client requirements.
- Ensure all procedures are documented, and staff are fully trained and competent.
- Monitor and verify all Critical Control Points (CCPs).
- Train staff on all aspects of the Food Safety Management System and OHS Standard Operating Procedures.
- Be a confident and strong communicator, capable of engaging and mobilising team members in the implementation and management of the Food Safety Management System, as well as food and OHS safety.
- Be a systems thinker, able to assess situations, interpret facts, and formulate action plans to address non-conformances and deviations.
- Work effectively with various people across all organisational levels.
- Be agile, flexible, resilient, and capable of handling a demanding workload.
- Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety objectives.
- Handle challenging situations and customers (internal and external).
- Conduct internal system and process audits, classify and detail non-conformances, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate record keeping, documentation, and reports.
- Provide regular feedback to onsite, regional management, and the client.
- Verify the quality, safety, and compliance of all incoming ingredients to specifications.
- Investigate incidents, ensuring proper closure through robust investigation and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Ensure legal compliance of the contract.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP), Department of Health officials, and fire departments as required.
- Adhere to the company’s Business Code of Ethics and confidentiality rules.
- Maintain professionalism in all communications and keep colleagues informed of relevant developments or changes.
