Qualifications

Purpose of the role:

The HR Specialist: Analytics & Insight is a critical enabler of a high-performing HR function, responsible for applying analytical thinking and process optimisation principles to enhance the delivery of HR services. This role combines the technical discipline of Industrial Engineering with the strategic intent of Human Resources, ensuring that HR processes are efficient, scalable, compliant, and data-driven. The role supports decision-making, workforce planning, and the transformation of HR into a digitally enabled, insights-led business partner.

Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Process Optimisation & Service Excellence

  • Analyse, map, and improve end-to-end HR processes across the employee lifecycle (e.g., recruitment, onboarding, performance management, learning & development, exit processes).
  • Identify inefficiencies, duplication, and bottlenecks, and develop solutions that enhance user experience, reduce turnaround times, and ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), process documentation, and service-level agreements (SLAs) for HR service delivery.
  • Support the digitisation and automation of HR workflows, driving operational excellence in both strategic and transactional HR functions.

2. HR Data Analytics & Reporting

  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports that provide actionable insight into key HR metrics such as headcount, turnover, time-to-fill, absenteeism, workforce demographics, and employee engagement.
  • Interpret and translate complex workforce data into clear, business-relevant insights and recommendations for HR leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of predictive analytics (e.g., attrition forecasting, skills gap analysis) to guide workforce planning and talent management strategies.
  • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of HR data across systems.

3. HR Projects & Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead or contribute to HR projects, including process redesign, HRIS upgrades, policy updates, and change management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Finance, Compliance) to ensure successful execution of HR improvement projects.
  • Develop project charters, timelines, stakeholder maps, and risk logs to ensure accountability and visibility throughout project lifecycles.
  • Track and report on project progress and benefit realisation to HR leadership.

4. Compliance, Governance & Audit Support

  • Monitor compliance with HR policies, legislative requirements (e.g., BCEA, LRA), and internal controls through process audits and compliance reports.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, and Finance to ensure adherence to SARS and other statutory reporting obligations.
  • Support data governance efforts by contributing to the development and enforcement of HR data standards and security protocols.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Building

  • Serve as a central resource for HR process and analytics capability, offering support, training, and consultation to HR business partners and line managers.
  • Promote a data-literate culture within the HR function by enabling stakeholders to access and interpret relevant workforce data.
  • Facilitate workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions on process improvement methodologies and insights tools.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or similar relevant certifications in HR analytics, Lean Six Sigma, or project management will be advantageous.
  • 3–5 years of experience in HR operations, business/process analysis, or industrial engineering, ideally within a corporate or HR environment.
  • Proven experience working with HRIS systems (e.g., SAP SuccessFactors).
  • Strong proficiency in data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), Excel, and process mapping tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart).
  • Working knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR compliance standards is a strong advantage.
