Job description

Our team, based in Morningside Durban, is seeking a Temp HR Officer (Generalist) who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Purpose of the role: The ideal candidate is a proactive professional who supports the HR department and the business by performing a generalist role within the Human Resources discipline while reflecting the company values.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. General: Assist, guide, support, and advise on HR-related matters across IOEC departments / sites. Manage day-to-day HR operations, providing excellent customer service and maintaining an effective employee experience. Follow all company policies and procedures.
  2. HR Administration: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files and HR databases. Process HR-related documentation, such as employment contracts, employee letters, and performance-related documents, medical aid, and retirement fund. Coordinate and compile monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting aligned to strategic metrics including trend analysis and recommendations from the HR Leadership Team.
  3. Employment Laws and Compliance: Ensure compliance with RSA Legislation, guided by the HR Executive. Assist in the preparation of Employment Equity information including reports and other related administrative duties. Provide data for BBBEE scorecards and assist in collation for the audits. Work closely with Payroll to support effective administration flow for efficient payroll processing. Prepare and submit documents for DOL audits. Visit various sites for employee engagements.
  4. Employee Relations: Assist the HR Executive on employee relation matters up to CCMA / Bargaining Council when applicable and in line with company policies (bundle preparations, etc.). Coordinate internal disciplinary hearings. Coordinate incapacity processes emanating from the Medical Review Board (P / Fund).
  5. Performance Management: Assist the HR Executive with regards to the appraisal process and ensure performance reviews are done in accordance with RSA Legislation.
  6. Training & Development: Coordinate the implementation of all Organisational Development, Training & Development activities with the HR Team.
  7. Talent Acquisition: Champion the induction of new employees and offboarding processes. Assist in all recruitment, screening, selection, and placement activities as required.
  8. HR Projects: Be part of HR Projects, coordinate people initiatives (incl. EAP), Community Outreach activities, and ad-hoc tasks. Perform any other tasks as requested by management.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Available immediately
  2. Degree / diploma qualification in Human Resources
  3. Proven experience as HR officer, administrator, or other HR position
  4. Understanding of labour laws and disciplinary procedures.
  5. Track record of preparing and running any CCMA cases
  6. Must be based in Durban, as this is an on-site role
  7. Driver's License & Own car essential
  8. Reports to HR HOD and HR Director
