Job Description
The role of the Human Resources Officer is to ensure that the required talent is recruited, onboarded, trained and performed at optimal levels to enable line management to achieve their operational goals, whilst ensuring compliance and observance of all legal and statutory requirements.
Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Manage recruitment for seasonal and permanent staff.
- Oversee onboarding, induction, and training of new hires.
Workforce Planning & Productivity
- Analyse time & attendance to optimize staffing and costs.
- Partner with management to achieve productivity targets.
Employee Relations
- Act as first point of contact for queries and grievances.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and worker committee meetings.
- Drive employee engagement and positive work culture.
HR Administration
- Maintain accurate employee records (contracts, leave, performance).
- Prepare HR reports for management and audits.
Compliance
- Ensure adherence to BCEA, LRA, and OHS Act.
- Support health & safety initiatives and incident reporting.
Payroll Support
- Ensure compliance in payroll, benefits, and leave management.
- Coordinate with payroll systems for accurate salary processing.
Learning, Development & Performance
- Coordinate training and skills development programs.
- Support performance management processes.
Welfare & Community Engagement
- Support employee welfare initiatives (housing, wellness, etc.).
- Build and maintain positive community relations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education / Qualification
- A relevant B-Degree at a recognised and accredited university.
- Minimum of 3 years HR experience, preferably in the agricultural sector.
- Recruitment and selection
- Roll out of learning and development initiatives
- Knowledge of South African labour law is essential - managing misconduct, incapacity, dispute resolution and related procedures
- Payroll activities and procedures
Working Conditions
- Must be willing to work on-site in a rural or semi-rural setting.
- May require occasional weekend or after-hours work during peak seasons.
Functional / Technical
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluent in English; Afrikaans and / or local languages (e.g., isiXhosa, isiZulu) are a strong advantage.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in a rural / farm setting.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, HR systems).
- Fair understanding of agricultural production and supply chain
