Responsibilities
- Contribute to optimizing the HR organization and HR processes & procedures in the SSA Region.
- Implement HR policies & processes in alignment with corporate guidelines and regional specifications.
- Support reviewing, updating, and implementing policies and procedures for the region.
- Lead the development of local policies and procedures for the SSA entity, aligning with local management.
- Manage and coordinate HR functions and activities in the SSA region in alignment with regional MDs.
- Interact with local MDs and MEA HR to develop local HR strategies supporting business strategies.
- Handle workforce planning, staffing, recruiting, and onboarding for all staff in Evonik Africa.
- Implement performance management and talent development initiatives, including skills development plans.
- Assist MEA HR during job grading and salary band alignment across SSA.
- Provide annual salary and bonus calculation proposals to the Head of HR MEA.
- Handle employment contracts, offer letters, job descriptions, and ensure compliance with local legislation.
- Coordinate medical aid issues, pension fund issues, and serve on pension fund committees for SSA.
- Manage personnel and disciplinary topics within SSA, in alignment with local MDs.
- Support Evonik Africa and Evonik Peroxide plant employees operationally.
- Ensure timely updates of personnel files, master database, and Workday elements; maintain employee documentation.
- Manage HR administrative elements for Evonik Africa office and Peroxide plant, including union liaison.
- File employee documentation and handle employment equity submissions for Evonik Africa & EPA.
- Manage B-BBEE HR elements for Evonik Africa.
- Handle tax-related processes including EMP501s, IRP5s, and monthly SARS payments.
- Assist employees with salary queries and liaise with finance as needed.
Preferred but Not Mandatory Responsibilities
- Manage internal payroll, including external payroll steering for EA, EPA, Ghana & Kenya.
- Perform quarterly salary reconciliation, provisions, and manage leave registers.
Requirements
- University degree, preferably in HR or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience in SSA.
- Experience in multinational/corporate environments.
- Knowledge of BBBEE, employment equity, workman's compensation, unions, and insurances.
- Experience with HR ERP systems; Workday knowledge is preferred.
- At least 3 years of payroll administration experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Flexibility to travel between Durban and Midrand.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Zulu, Afrikaans, or other local languages is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently, providing guidance on policies and motivating employees.
