Job summary

The Capital Hotels in Cape Town is seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to oversee the maintenance of guest rooms, public areas and critical building systems, ensuring safety and high service standards.

You will lead maintenance staff, supervise contractors, and support budgeting, compliance and capital expenditure tracking, stepping in for the Facilities Manager when required.

Responsibilities

• Support daily facilities and maintenance operations, supervising staff and allocating tasks.
• Oversee preventative maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, generators, lifts and fire safety systems.
• Manage compliance, contractors and service providers to maintain quality and safety standards.
• Assist with maintenance budgeting, cost control and capital expenditure tracking.
• Provide leadership and departmental support, stepping in for the Facilities Manager when required.

About the role

The Assistant Facilities Manager supports the efficient, safe and professional operation of all hotel facilities, infrastructure and technical systems – helping ensure guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces and critical building systems are maintained to the highest standard. The role assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of the Facilities Manager.

What you'll do:

• Support daily facilities and maintenance operations, supervising staff and allocating tasks
• Oversee preventative maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, generators, lifts and fire safety systems
• Manage compliance, contractors and service providers to maintain quality and safety standards
• Assist with maintenance budgeting, cost control and capital expenditure tracking
• Provide leadership and departmental support, stepping in for the Facilities Manager when required

What you'll bring:

• Grade 12 (Matric) required; Hotel Management, Technical or Facilities-related qualification advantageous
• 4–6 years' experience in facilities management, maintenance supervision or engineering within hospitality/hotels
• Strong leadership, planning and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of health, safety and compliance standards
• Trade certification or contractor-management experience beneficial
