Job description

As the Hospital Contracting Manager , you will lead the hospital contracting strategy and execution for Discovery Health. This includes overseeing commercial agreements with hospitals, day hospitals, sub-acute and psychiatric facilities, and in-facility procured items. You will manage high-value portfolios (~R39 billion in scheme spend), lead complex negotiations, ensure implementation of contracts, and maintain strong provider relationships in line with our strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and execute Discovery Health’s hospital contracting strategy
  • Lead negotiations with hospitals and service providers at executive level
  • Design hospital networks to optimize cost and care quality
  • Drive sustainable tariff negotiations and contracting efficiencies
  • Manage hospital-related scheme spend (~R28bn annually)
  • Oversee contract implementation, stakeholder compliance, and SLA enforcement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, clinical, and operational teams
  • Maintain regulatory awareness and ensure stakeholder alignment
  • Innovate and improve contracting models using data and analytics

Required Qualifications & Experience :

  • Honours Degree in Clinical or Commercial discipline (Master’s preferred)
  • 5–10 years’ relevant experience in healthcare contracting or strategic sourcing
  • Senior stakeholder engagement and leadership exposure
  • Deep understanding of the South African healthcare landscape
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and project management skills
  • Proficient in presentation, communication, and stakeholder influence
  • Experience with Managed Care and Discovery Health products is advantageous
