Placements24 is seeking a passionate Horticulturist to join our agricultural team in Tembisa. The role focuses on cultivation, management, and research of crops to optimize growth, yield, and quality for commercial purposes.

You will work with farm managers to implement best plant-science practices, oversee irrigation and nutrients, supervise staff, and contribute to advanced horticultural techniques in a leading agricultural enterprise.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Horticulture, Botany, or related field.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in commercial horticulture or crop management.
• Strong understanding of plant physiology, soil science, IPM.
• Experience with greenhouse operations and controlled environment agriculture is advantageous.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail in monitoring plant health.
• Ability to analyze data and make informed crop-management decisions.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and manage planting, cultivation, and harvesting programs for crops.
• Research new plant varieties, soil treatments, and growing techniques to improve crop performance.
• Monitor plant health, identify diseases or pests, and apply treatments.
• Oversee irrigation and nutrient management for optimal growing conditions.
• Maintain records of planting, growth, yield, and pest/disease data.
• Supervise and train junior horticultural staff and field workers.
