An educational support organization in Johannesburg seeks a facilitator to assist a neurodivergent child in her learning journey. This role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team, managing the child's sensory needs, and fostering social interactions. Candidates should have tutoring experience, a gentle approach, and a passion for supporting neurodiversity. Training opportunities are available through the NDC Facilitation Academy.
The child in question is a sweet, yet feisty, and very bright little girl who loves gadgets, swimming, and playing outdoors. She will be starting to follow a mainstream curriculum at home, via the NeuroMe online platform. A facilitator has been requested by her parents to oversee the program and assist in her learning experience.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the educational journey of this child. Your responsibilities will include assisting her with understanding learning tasks, completing them appropriately, and supporting her individual learning, regulation, and sensory needs throughout the school day. The child is anxious and easily overwhelmed, and currently has a low tolerance for managing demands. Managing these feelings appropriately will be an important part of the job. A low arousal / demand, and child-led approach to learning will be paramount in this role. It will be necessary to work closely with her multidisciplinary team and implement relevant support strategies necessary for further learning and development. A suitable candidate should be interested in neurodiversity and have a passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals.
There will be an opportunity to be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy when the role commences, and support sessions are provided for one month thereafter, working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre.
