HOME CARER POSITION - HAVEN OLD AGE HOME

The Haven Night Shelter Organisation offers social work services, rehabilitation opportunities, family reunification services, physical care, and support to adult people living on the streets who are committed to reintegration.

We are seeking a dynamic Home Carer for our Haven Old Age Home in Woodstock, Cape Town. The successful applicant will report to the Enrolled & Registered Nurse.

Qualification and Experience

• Basic Home Carer certificate and Matric
• 2 Years’ experience as a Home Carer and at least 1 year experience in Geriatric Nursing

Minimum Duties

• Be personally responsible for the very frail residents.
• Maintain all record keeping and documentation.
• Keep the physical environment of the residents clean.
• Handle residence complaints appropriately.
• Promote personal hygiene of all residents requiring daily care.
• Manage and coordinate residents attending Doctor’s appointments.
• Communicate effectively with residents about their care.
• Assess and coordinate emergency services assistance if necessary.
• Identify and care for the psycho-somatic and emotional states of residents.
• Ensure the catering department is aware of all special dietary requirements and supervise meal service to ensure compliance.
• Mentor learners on internships and learnerships.

Attributes and Skills

Well-spoken and neat presentation.
Must be able to communicate well with elderly.
Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
