Job summary

Job description

The incumbent will be required to manage and lead the Civil Design team in the office and those assigned to work on project sites.

The role involves close collaboration with the Chairman, executive directors, and Project Managers to direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority over civil projects within the assigned area.

The position also entails driving the growth vision of South Zambezi and Khato Civils' Civil Engineering Division, organizing and controlling various project elements to complete engineering projects effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Develop project objectives by reviewing proposals and plans; consulting with management.

Define project responsibilities by identifying phases and elements; assigning personnel; reviewing contractor bids.

Determine project specifications through studying design, customer requirements, and standards; conducting technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

Confirm product performance via design and testing.

Establish project schedules by studying plans; calculating time requirements; sequencing activities.

Monitor progress and coordinate activities to maintain schedules; resolve issues promptly.

Review design, specifications, and schedule changes; recommend adjustments.

Control project costs by approving expenditures and managing contracts.

Prepare status reports by analyzing data and trends; recommending actions.

Enforce safety and cleanliness standards at work sites.

Ensure compliance with international standards and regulations to maintain reputation.

Contribute to team efforts and ensure team members have necessary tools.

Design, report, and manage civil infrastructural projects (Water, Sewer, Roads).

Prepare proposals, tenders, and contracts for infrastructural services.

Supervise construction works on-site for short durations, ensuring compliance with standards and schedules; attend meetings; prepare reports.

Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Chairman.

Qualifications and Experience

BEng (Civil) or equivalent degree; registered or registrable with ECSA as PrEng; SAICE membership advantageous.

Extensive experience in bulk water and wastewater infrastructure, storm water, earthworks, roads, with process design experience preferred.

At least 20 years in engineering design, management, and construction; minimum 5 years post-registration experience.

Proven leadership in a consulting environment; knowledge of legal and compliance standards.

Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, civil and water design software; valid driver's license.

Commitment to ISO standards and regular site visits.
