High School Afrikaans First Additional Language Teacher

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Grade 8–12 Afrikaans First Additional Language (FAL) teacher to join our team and contribute to the continued growth and excellence of our Language Department.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic educator who meets the IEB requirements and has a deep understanding of the Afrikaans FAL curriculum. The ideal candidate will be innovative, professional, and committed to developing learners’ language skills in a dynamic and engaging classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teach Afrikaans First Additional Language to Grades 8–12 in line with the IEB curriculum.
  2. Create and implement engaging, differentiated lesson plans that cater to a range of learner abilities and learning styles.
  3. Inspire a love of language and literature while fostering critical thinking and communication skills.
  4. Provide continuous assessment and meaningful feedback to support learner development.
  5. Contribute to a positive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes excellence and mutual respect.
  6. Stay current with curriculum developments and best practices in the teaching of Afrikaans FAL.
  7. Support school activities and contribute to the wider school community through participation in cultural and academic events.
  8. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the curriculum and departmental planning.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  1. A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Education or a degree with Afrikaans as a major and a PGCE.
  2. SACE registration.
  3. Proven experience teaching Afrikaans FAL in the High School (Grades 08–12), preferably in an IEB school.
  4. Excellent command of Afrikaans and English, both written and spoken.
  5. Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  6. A passion for language education and learner success.
  7. Commitment to collaborative teaching and ongoing professional development.
  8. Previous IEB marking experience will be beneficial.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
