Placements24 is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for our mining and construction client in Bloemfontein, Free State. You will diagnose issues on excavators, loaders, bulldozers and trucks, perform preventative maintenance and carry out major repairs to maximise uptime.

The role requires strong diagnostic skills, experience with diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems, and the ability to work in demanding field environments.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the construction and mining sector, is seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their operations based in Bloemfontein, Free State . This role is essential for maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and trucks. You will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and executing complex repairs to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency of the equipment. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, a thorough understanding of hydraulic and diesel systems, and the ability to work effectively in a demanding field environment. The successful candidate will be dedicated to upholding high standards of safety and equipment reliability for our client's operations in the Bloemfontein region.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic assessments and identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
• Repair and rebuild major components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
• Service and repair braking systems, suspension, and undercarriage components.
• Utilize diagnostic tools, specialized equipment, and manuals to effectively troubleshoot and repair machinery.
• Ensure all work performed meets quality standards and adheres to safety regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair activities performed.
• Manage parts inventory and order necessary components for repairs.
• Work effectively in a workshop environment or at project sites as required.
• Provide technical guidance to junior mechanics when necessary.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic or similar role.
• In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, power trains, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems of heavy machinery.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic software and equipment specific to heavy equipment manufacturers.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair guides.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with welding and fabrication is a plus.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and overtime.
• Physical stamina and ability to work in demanding conditions.
