Pro Select Consulting is seeking an experienced Heavy-Duty Mechanic for a leading road construction and rehabilitation company in Durban. You will maintain, service and repair diesel-powered heavy equipment, earthmoving machinery and fleet vehicles.

Road construction and asphalt plant experience is highly advantageous; you will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, and keep detailed service records while working on-site and in our workshop.

Qualifikationen

• Qualified Diesel/Heavy-Duty Mechanic or equivalent recognised trade qualification.
• Extensive experience with heavy-duty plant, earthmoving equipment and road construction machinery.
• Proven experience diagnosing diesel-powered equipment and reading manuals/schematics.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to work on-site.

Aufgaben

Our client, a leading road construction and rehabilitation company, is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Heavy-Duty Mechanic to take responsibility for the maintenance, servicing, diagnostics and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy construction plant, earthmoving equipment, road-building machinery and commercial vehicles.

The successful candidate will be a hands‑on mechanical specialist with extensive experience working on diesel-powered heavy equipment, with strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and repairs across the company's heavy plant and vehicle fleet.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime.
• Attend to breakdowns and perform effective fault-finding and repairs both in the workshop and on site.
• Inspect machinery and identify potential mechanical problems before they result in major breakdowns.
• Maintain accurate service, maintenance and repair records for all equipment.
• Conduct engine, transmission, hydraulic and braking system repairs.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel engines and associated fuel systems.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, cylinders and related components.
• Carry out welding, fabrication and general mechanical repairs where required.
• Ensure machinery is maintained according to manufacturer specifications and company maintenance schedules.
• Assist with the commissioning, decommissioning and movement of plant and equipment where required.
• Liaise with operators to identify recurring mechanical faults and equipment performance issues.
• Ensure all repairs are completed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
• Adhere to all company health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Work closely with Operations, Plant and Site Management to ensure maximum equipment availability and minimise downtime.

Strong experience working on road construction, earthmoving and heavy-duty equipment is highly advantageous.

Minimum Requirements:

• Qualified Diesel / Heavy-Duty Mechanic or equivalent recognised trade qualification.
• Relevant Red Seal Trade Certificate will be highly advantageous.
• Extensive experience working on heavy-duty plant, earthmoving equipment and/or road construction machinery.
• Proven experience working on diesel-powered equipment.
• Strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics and service information.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Willingness to work on-site and respond to equipment breakdowns when required.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to safe working practices.
