Job Purpose
The H&S officer is primarily responsible to ensure that corrective actions and lead indicators are implemented to prevent injuries and ill health to staff. This includes the below:
- Advising the management on safety issues
- Developing health and safety policies and procedures
- Monitoring and controlling safety and compliance in the organization as per the law and organization's policy
Minimum Requirements
- 3 – 5 years health and safety experience within the Oil & Gas / Manufacturing industries
- ISO auditor accreditation would be an advantage
- Health and Safety Diploma or related qualification
- Proficiency in MS Office, Intermediate MS Excel and MS Word knowledge is critical
- Valid driver's license and must be an experienced driver
- Willingness and ability to travel
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, implement, review and ongoing improvement of the existing H&S system in line with global company requirements and regional needs.
- Provide periodic reports on H&S performance to H&S Manager and staff – through various forums and meetings.
- Promote positive H&S culture and set a good example.
- Provide advice and support to the H&S Manager on the full implementation of the H&S system
- Advise on areas of significant H&S risk and future H&S priorities for the region.
- Implement and update legal register.
- Travel to various regional offices / areas and provide H&S support to Fieldwork in those areas.
- Supervise, motivate, and assist HS reps in regional offices.
- Provide support to all staff in terms of: Inductions, authorised training (ergonomics, defensive driving, fire, first aid, PTW, gas testing etc.
- Record keeping, chase up and retraining.
- Generate safety stats, new procedures for projects and proposals.
- Address staff queries and ensure emergency evacuation cover in place for travellers.
- Review and advise regarding travel destinations.
- Maintain an agreed programme of audits and participate in the audits to help assess compliance with the company's H&S system.
- Incident reporting, investigation, and corrective measures.
- Work together with other support services (IT, HR, Quality and Finance).
- Supervise local office maintenance activities related to H&S.
