Job description

We are currently looking for a Health & Safety Officer for our client in the petrochemical and oil & gas sector. Must have experience in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe working environment by implementing and maintaining health and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role, specifically within the petrochemical, oil & gas, or related industries .
  • Relevant Health & Safety Qualification (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of the OHS Act and relevant industry regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and risk assessment abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
  • Advantages :

Exposure to ISO 45001 compliance.

  • Incident investigation or auditing certification.
  • First Aid and Fire Fighting Certificates.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments.
  • Monitor and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Develop, implement, and update health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to staff and contractors.
  • Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and training.
  • Prepare reports and documentation required for audits and client compliance.
  • Liaise with management and stakeholders to ensure alignment on safety standards.
