Job description

Envusa Energy is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to champion world-class H&S practices across its project portfolio and operations in South Africa.

Based in Gqeberha or Cape Town with hybrid flexibility, this is a permanent, senior-level role reporting to the Head of Project Execution. Envusa Energy is a 50-50 joint venture co-controlled by EDF Renewables South Africa and Anglo American.

Envusa aims to develop and supply renewable energy solutions across Southern Africa.

The company will support the decarbonization of Anglo American's operations by delivering 3 to 5 GW of renewable assets, with their first project, Koruson 2, expected to be operational by early 2024.

EDF Renewables, established in South Africa in 2012, develops and operates renewable energy facilities, leveraging expertise from its parent company, EDF Renouvelables, the renewable energy arm of global utility EDF.

Anglo American is a leading global mining company focused on the responsible production of future-enabling products essential for decarbonizing the global economy, improving living standards, and ensuring food security. Envusa aims to become a leading renewables IPP and trader focused on private offtake across Southern Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of an ISO-certified H&S Management System
  • Champion a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization
  • Oversee health and safety on major renewable projects from planning to asset management
  • Ensure compliance with South African OHSA, MHSA, and international standards
  • Manage emergency preparedness, risk assessments, and incident investigations
  • Engage with key stakeholders, regulators, and international H&S forums
  • Lead and mentor H&S teams, contractors, and service providers
  • Promote employee wellbeing, mental health, and ergonomic programs

Requirements:

  • Degree equivalent to NQF Level 7 in HSE or related field
  • SAMTRAC or NEBOSH International General Certificate (essential)
  • Certified in ISO 45001, ISO 14001, risk assessment, and incident investigations
  • 15+ years of H&S experience, with 7+ years in senior leadership (Energy, Construction, or Mining)
  • Proven ability to design and lead corporate-level safety strategies
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and regulatory interface experience
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Fluency in English; French or a South African language is a plus
