Job Summary: The company is looking to recruit an ambitious and energetic person to take on a Health, Safety and Environment role within South Africa, who will help Candi to further deliver premium solar solutions. Given that Candi is taking solar into a new realm with a new set of tools, the role will require creativity, innovation, and a new way of thinking.
The job requires taking ownership of the following for the South African business:
- Together with HSE team members, take ownership of all of the functions of the HSE department at Candi (which requires proactively identifying issues, providing solutions and effectively communicating these to other departments within Candi)
- Design a regulatory HSE compliance framework
- Develop and implement a HSE management system (HSEMS) for solar PV projects
- Drive the digitalisation of HSE documentation management
- Ensure the Project Management and Asset Management teams and Candi staff apply appropriate HSE standards to Candi offices and sites
- Provide training and support to staff and project teams on systems and best practices
- Liaise with customers and suppliers regarding Candi’s HSE product and training requirements
- Coordinate with external HSE consultants where necessary to cover gaps in Candi’s HSE resourcing availability
- Conduct regular audits and inspections during project execution to ensure compliance with relevant HSE standards, including the management of the sub-contractor HSE compliance on sites
- Conduct regular audits and inspections during the operational phase to ensure compliance with relevant HSE standards
- Monitor and report on HSE performance for solar PV projects during construction and operations
- Report on and coordinate the investigation of incidents and accidents, and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Coordinate and prepare the relevant site HSE documentation
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that HSE considerations are integrated into all aspects of project planning, design, and execution
- Group and local ESG reporting
Location:
- Location preferred in: Johannesburg
- Flexibility to work from home on a regular basis
- Travel to construction sites & assets regularly
Hours: Full-time (five days per week)
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the solar PV industry
- Strong knowledge of relevant safety, health, environmental, and quality standards and regulations
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Registered with SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professionals) as a CHSM (Construction Health and Safety Manager)
- Legal Liability, OHS Act, Construction Regulations, Lead Auditor qualifications
- ISO 45001 knowledge / Qualification
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or similar certification is a plus
- Knowledge/skill implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental Integrated Management Systems (IMS)
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Fall Protection and Fall Rescue
- Desire to work in an international environment, sharing ideas and learnings across borders and cultures
- Experience and confidence in communicating technical topics to all asset stakeholders
- Competent to work independently in an electronic, hybrid, work-from-home environment
- Competent with Microsoft, Google Suite and other electronic platforms is essential
