MAIN PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for all aspects of health, safety, security, and fire control of the company's premises, buildings, factory plant, and assets. The incumbent will drive continuous improvement in the Health and Safety department within the Newtown manufacturing facility.
By ensuring operations legal compliance and implementation of audits.
Qualifications and Experience
- National Diploma in Safety / Health Management
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience
- SAMTRAC / NEBOSH IGC Certification
- HIRA & Legal Liability Certification
- Incident investigation experience
- ISO Management System experience
- Mining / construction industry experience is a big plus
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Maintain, implement, and revise company policies and operational procedures
- Ensure emergency response plans are aligned with business risks; train employees and ensure effective implementation
- Schedule and participate in departmental evacuation drills; conduct roll calls and prepare post-mortem drill reports
- Maintain and schedule servicing of fire equipment
- Schedule and perform regular internal audits to measure performance
- Schedule ASIB inspections and close-out report findings where required
- Maintain weekly testing of the sprinkler system and schedule equipment servicing
- Participate and lead incident investigations and log IOD claims with the DOL / Compensation Commissioner
- Perform, participate, and lead risk assessments for all operations
- Prepare, implement, and revise safe work procedures for all operations
- Prepare and participate in weekly departmental TBTs
- Maintain legal register and implement legal tracker for the facility
- Work closely with the OHNP and assist in arranging personnel for annual medicals
- Schedule and attend monthly H&S Committee meetings with balanced management and employee representation
- Maintain and update legal organogram and ensure all legal appointments are current
- Implement and maintain equipment and facility inspections and registers
- Schedule Occupational Hygiene Surveys and review findings with management
- Implement and maintain near miss and hazard reporting systems; report monthly on behaviors and actions
- Arrange and conduct HSE inductions for visitors, contractors, service providers, and new employees
- Order and issue PPE to employees; maintain PPE issue register
- Facilitate personnel training in PPE use
- Compile monthly HSE reports and presentations
- Monitor and analyze HSE trends and data, including the DIRF
- Maintain hazardous chemicals register and facilitate employee training on MSDSE
- Maintain training matrices and schedule recertifications
- Implement and maintain housekeeping inspections for all departments
- Manage contractors, cleaners, and service providers; ensure agreements are current
- Ensure facility and service provider logs are current
- Maintain waste register with manifests and disposal certificates
- Revise security site instructions aligned with business risks; train security personnel
- Maintain onsite security files and registers (personnel and vehicle movement)
- Report fire hazards or risks to the Factory Manager
