Role Context

The Health and Safety Coordinator will provide health and safety technical advice, analysis, information, and recommendations, as well as oversee business practices to ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations by SSA Countries and the SSA Express Regional Office. This role is critical for supporting and implementing DHL Express's global health & safety strategy.

The primary goal is to coordinate, analyze, and maintain SSA DHL Express activities and data related to health and safety. Responsibilities include providing health and safety services to the Cape Town and JHB Regional Offices, collecting and consolidating data from all SSA countries, creating reports, generating statistical data, and analyzing trends in health and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Maintain compliance and ensure legal appointments are up to date; conduct safety registers/checklists, health and safety talks, and committee meetings as required; manage contractors.
  2. Enforce health and safety strategy, policies, and standards in the CT and JHB offices.
  3. Compile and review operational site risk assessments as needed.
  4. Use risk assessment results to facilitate preventive and corrective measures.
  5. Ensure nonconformances are reported, investigated, and addressed promptly.
  6. Prepare for ISO45001 & ISO14001 certification in the future.
  7. Drive the behavioral safety program.
  8. Assist SSA Countries' H&S teams by managing and analyzing safety performance data.
  9. Make strategic, tactical, or operational recommendations.
  10. Provide high-quality data for scheduled and ad hoc reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).
  11. Collect data and develop reports on critical risk management and control effectiveness.
  12. Support and coach internal stakeholders to improve data integrity for H&S reporting.
  13. Profile risks in SSA Express Countries using trending metrics, statistical analysis, and industry best practices.
  14. Develop and document analytic models to identify trends and track performance for continuous improvement.
  15. Develop metrics, including lead and lag indicators, to track H&S performance against objectives.
  16. Use continuous improvement tools to enhance H&S governance and reporting frameworks.
  17. Maintain health and safety information systems per DHL Express global standards.
  18. Support injury management and ensure accurate, private data reporting.
  19. Provide training and support for key components of the SSA DHL Express H&S strategy related to systems and processes.
  20. Engage with business users and senior management to communicate technical requirements clearly and gain buy-in.

Education & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Health & Safety Coordinator or similar role.
  • Deep knowledge of OSH guidelines and practices.
  • Experience in reporting and policy development.
  • Experience in implementing OSH training programs.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills.
  • Diligent with an analytical mindset.
  • Diploma/Degree in Health and Safety or a relevant field.
