Job summary

Placements24 in Johannesburg seeks a Lead Theatre Production Manager to oversee all aspects of theatre productions, from concept and planning through to performances and strike. The role requires hands-on leadership, a deep understanding of stagecraft, budgeting, scheduling, and safety compliance.

The successful candidate will manage stage managers, technicians, designers, and crew; coordinate with directors and vendors; develop schedules, monitor costs, and maintain records.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in theatre production management.
• Experience managing complex theatre productions from small to large-scale events.
• In-depth knowledge of theatre technology, stagecraft, lighting and sound systems.
• Strong leadership, organizational and budgeting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate all technical and creative aspects of theatre productions, including staging, lighting, sound, and set design.
• Develop and maintain detailed production schedules, ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Oversee and manage production budgets, tracking expenses and seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
• Supervise and lead production teams, including stage managers, technicians, designers, and crew, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
• Liaise with directors, designers, actors, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment with artistic vision.
• Source and manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and contractors for materials, equipment, and services.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations within the theatre premises.
• Conduct pre-production meetings, technical rehearsals, and post-production reviews.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any production-related issues that may arise during rehearsals or performances.
• Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
