Our client is seeking a Head of Supply Chain for procurement purposes within mining for their head office in Gauteng.

As the Head of Supply Chain your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  1. Provide safety, health, and environmental leadership to achieve goals and promote well-being at work and home.
  2. Lead by example; perform visible leadership and incentivise an unconditional safety culture across the Supply Chain and among suppliers.
  3. Support the safe operation of business-specific Supply Chain physical infrastructure and equipment; conduct risk assessments, monitor safety performance, and resolve risks/issues.
  4. Ensure that category strategies, supplier selection criteria, and agreements set safety, community, inclusive procurement, and sustainability performance requirements with specificity alongside monitoring routines.
  5. Drive and support compliance with all relevant policies and standards, particularly the Contractor Performance Management efforts, to attain gold-standard contractor safety performance.
  6. Position Supply Chain as a strategic partner to the business, contributing to medium- (6 - 12 month) and long-term (1-10 years) business strategy while providing innovative solutions to key business challenges and supporting the delivery of business results.
  7. Contribute to developing medium- to long-term global Supply Chain business strategies and risk identification.
  8. Drive successful Supply Chain actions aligned with projects and initiatives.
  9. Own the business's commercial performance, delivering on targets and collaborating with commercial teams to achieve excellence.
  10. Provide input for category portfolio and value delivery planning; gather asset and business stakeholder input; support and approve global and regional category strategies, initiative plans, and agreements.
  11. Contribute to developing an inclusive procurement policy, strategy, and work program by providing business and asset context and overseeing the implementation of relevant policies and standards within the business to drive compliance.
  12. Engage business/asset leadership to obtain support for the strategy, work program, targets, and funding requirements.
  13. Lead business cross-functional collaboration (social performance, technical, and finance) and the on-site implementation of initiatives; track and monitor progress and escalate issues to the relevant commercial or IP team if necessary.
  14. Ensure community supplier visibility and capability building by overseeing the identification of host community suppliers, conducting pre-screening, assessing capabilities, defining required development needs, and collaborating with supplier development partners to support selected suppliers' growth.
  15. Lead community, business forum, and local/provincial government engagements related to the asset/business to build productive relationships; set and deliver realistic expectations and proactively identify and respond to changing needs.
  16. Lead the development and implementation of business-specific social and sustainability strategies and initiatives that will contribute to the sustainable mine plans.
  17. Implement and adopt Supply Chain policies, standards, new ways of working, and systems that drive excellence within the region.
  18. Drive Supply Chain performance across strategic metrics and objectives to achieve benchmark levels, ensuring operational excellence and asset-level scorecard performance on-site.
  19. Ensure compliance with the procurement policy, procedures, and methods for yourself, your team, and stakeholders.
  20. Provide proactive continuous improvement feedback to the relevant teams.
  21. Drive and oversee overall supply chain governance and compliance to regulatory requirements as applicable.
  22. Tackle current governance loop-holes with urgency.

This role is in Supply Chain (Supply Chain) department on a band 4 level reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications

  1. Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline or a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity.
  2. SA Drivers Licence.

Technical Knowledge

  1. Understanding Supply Chain management and its interdependencies within a global context (including category management, sourcing and contracts, purchasing, physical Supply Chain, and linkages to other functions).
  2. Awareness of the role of the Supply Chain in driving and achieving sustainability outcomes (such as circular economy initiatives, carbon and water footprint reduction, inclusive procurement, and engagement with responsible suppliers).
  3. Insight into business focus and commercial dynamics.
  4. Knowledge of supplier partnering, relationship building, and performance evaluation.
  5. Familiarity with concepts of continuous improvement and optimisation in the Supply Chain.
  6. Understanding safety, health, and environmental management in a Supply Chain context.
