Job summary

Department of Health at Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital seeks an Assistant Director: Speech Therapist and Audiologist to lead speech therapy and audiology services within the Clinical Support and Therapeutic Services directorate.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy & Audiology, HPCSA registration, and at least 3 years post-registration experience, with 5 years in supervisory/managerial capacity. The post offers a competitive package within the SA health system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy & Audiology and HPCSA registration.
• 3 years post-registration experience in Speech Therapy & Audiology, with 5 years in supervision/management.
• Strong communication, counselling, planning, organizing and people skills.
• Knowledge of PFMA and department constitutional mandate; computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to rehabilitation services strategic development focusing on speech therapy and audiology.
• Facilitate integration of speech therapy and audiology within priority programmes.
• Develop and implement an operational plan for rehabilitation services.
• Improve independence of people with hearing and communication disabilities; implement guidelines.
• Coordinate quality assurance, budget planning and HR planning; mentor staff.
