Job Title: Head of Technology / Technology Solutions Lead (start-up CTO)

Location: Johannesburg (office-based with flexibility)

Overview: Our client is a startup Prop-Tech platform specialising in data aggregation and insights, workflow and communication, and AI-enhanced actionable insights aimed at improving property management in the retail and real-estate environment. We are looking for a Head of Technology / Technology Solutions Lead (startup CTO) to serve as a key member of the executive team, responsible for leading the company's technology strategy and driving product development and innovation. We are looking for a technical leader who doesn't mind getting hands dirty but manages and guides the development team to ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality solutions aligned with business goals.

The successful candidate will also ensure that technology initiatives provide a competitive edge and meet industry standards.

Tech Stack (Hands-On required):

1. Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the company's technology vision, strategy, and roadmap to support business objectives. Align technology initiatives with the company's long-term goals and market opportunities. Act as a thought leader on emerging technologies and trends, particularly within the Prop-Tech sector.
2. Product Development and Delivery: Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Lead the creation of product requirement documents and technical scope briefs in collaboration with stakeholders. Optimise development processes to streamline iteration cycles, reduce time-to-market, and enhance product quality.
3. Team Management and Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to the development team to foster a high-performance culture. Build and scale the technical team, ensuring the recruitment and retention of top talent. Implement best practices for development methodologies, coding standards, and team collaboration.
4. Operational Excellence: Ensure adherence to SLAs, industry standards, and best practices in software development. Oversee technical documentation, product backlog, sprint planning, and reviews. Monitor and report on development progress, proactively addressing risks or challenges.
5. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with the CEO, Product Champions, and other stakeholders to gather and refine product requirements. Serve as a bridge between technical teams and business functions to ensure alignment. Represent the company's technical vision to partners, clients, and investors when required.
6. Technology Infrastructure and Security: Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of the company's technology infrastructure. Oversee the integration of emerging technologies to maintain a competitive advantage.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
2. Minimum of 8 years of experience in technology leadership roles, including as a CTO or equivalent.
3. Demonstrated success in leading and scaling technology teams, preferably in the Prop-Tech or related industries.
4. Strong knowledge of software development processes, methodologies, and tools.
5. Proven ability to align technical strategy with business objectives and deliver results.
6. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
7. Experience in managing budgets and technology investments.
8. Deep understanding of cloud-based architectures, AI, and data-driven platforms is a plus.
