Job description

St Catherine's School is a co-educational Catholic day school situated in Parkhill Gardens, Germiston.

The school was established by the Newcastle Dominican Sisters and educates pupils from Grade to Matric.

The school is registered with the I.E.B. and is a member of both I.S.A.S.A. and the Catholic Schools' Office.

The Role

Head of School responsibilities and accountabilities include the overall leadership and management of the school, overseeing all aspects of operations including academics, pupil welfare, staff development, budget management, community engagement, and strategic planning.

Ensuring the school achieves its educational goals and vision while adhering to policies and regulations set by the Government and the Board of Governors; essentially acting as the chief executive of the school.

You will also:

  1. Develop and implement the school's strategic plan, vision, and mission and support the Ethos of a Catholic School in staff, board, and pupil development, as set out in the school's constitution and user agreement.
  2. Set high academic standards and goals for pupil achievement.
  3. Recruit, hire, and evaluate teaching and administrative staff.
  4. Foster a positive school culture and collaborative work environment.
  5. Monitor pupil progress and address academic needs.
  6. Foster positive relationships with pupils and families.
  7. Make informed decisions regarding resource allocation.
  8. Promote the school's reputation and positive image.
  9. Regularly report to the school board on school performance and key issues.

Skills Required

You are a subject matter expert in developing and implementing the school's academic curriculum, ensuring it meets all educational standards and caters to the diverse needs of pupils.

You typically possess a blend of hands-on experience in educational leadership, including roles such as teaching, administrative positions, or curriculum development.

Participation in professional development programs to stay abreast of educational best practices, current trends, and leadership skills is also expected.

This role demands a proven track record in improving school performance and fostering a positive educational environment.

Additionally, you bring:

  • Master's degree in Education or related field.
  • Extensive teaching experience with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage complex operations and budgets.
