Job description

A leading cash management based in Houghton is urgently looking for Head of Product to be responsible for driving the strategic direction development delivery of cash products within the organisation oversee product management development and innovation efforts ensuring that products align with the company’s overall business objectives and customer needs whilst delivering return on investments. This role will work across the entire organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities

In order to be considered the following is required:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline required
  • Post Graduate Degree in Product Management or similar is advantageous
  • 10 years in product design, solution architecture, and complex project management of which: 5 years of senior management experience and 5 years of product management experience
  • Knowledge of data protection and POPI Act
  • Understanding of Enterprise Architecture or Technology Frameworks and Methodologies
  • Project management

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the strategy for cash management products including product design, pricing, and market positioning
  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of the cash product strategy and roadmap including implementing new technology and ways of working into the landscape
  • Own the automation strategy to drive product and service improvements positively impacting customer experience and efficiencies within the business
  • Foster a culture of innovation encouraging the development of new ideas and solutions to stay ahead of the competition
  • Keep abreast of global best practices on technology product development strategies to enable the business to maintain an advanced position in delivering forward-thinking and commercially astute solutions

Cash Product Roadmap:

  • Own and define the product roadmap of the cash ecosystem for commercial sustainability
  • Integrate automation and technology-driven enhancements into cash products to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and create competitive advantages
  • Identify opportunities to scale technological solutions and design and implement specialised system design solutions that are flexible and adaptable to a wide group of the business market
  • Drive product lifecycle management from conceptualization and development to launch, monitoring, and continuous improvement
  • Develop a differentiated innovative approach to product development to continuously improve and give the business a competitive advantage to stay ahead of the technology advancement curve

Customer Acquisition and Retention:

  • Identify new market opportunities and develop strategies to acquire new customers focusing on forming partnerships with high-potential clients and sectors
  • Lead hunting and farming initiatives to grow the customer base and deepen relationships with existing clients
  • Maintain a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape
  • Leverage data analytics to gain insights into cash usage patterns, customer behaviour, and market trends informing product development and process improvements
  • Ensure that customer feedback is continuously integrated into product development processes to enhance product relevance and satisfaction
  • Partner with sales and marketing teams to ensure successful product launches and to drive customer adoption and growth
  • Foster partnerships with technology providers, fintech companies, and other ecosystem players to drive innovation and expand the company’s capabilities
  • Participate in key information technology and cash ecosystem bodies to create networks and use those platforms for maintaining the latest understanding of ICT developments and related regulations

Cash Product Commerciality & Finance:

  • Own and manage product support project and revenue models of cash products in collaboration with Commercial departments
  • Design and implement a sustainable revenue generation model for cash management products balancing pricing strategies, customer needs, and market conditions
  • Drive the commercial go-to-market strategies for products in line with the business corporate strategy and roadmap
  • Monitor product performance and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and adjust strategies to maintain or improve revenue targets
  • Lead the development of business cases for new product initiatives ensuring a focus on return on investment (ROI)
  • Develop and control the annual cash product budget, operating costs, and forecasting
  • Manage the capital investments expenditure (CAPEX) to yield cost optimisation and control
  • Implement robust product governance controls and measures throughout the product delivery phases, upgrades, new systems, and migration processes to ensure end users and customers confidence levels in the security and safety of their data are maintained
  • Manage risks and system security threats such as cyberattacks and adhere to Cyber Security Act regulations relating to data management and customer information protection by embedding a culture of safe and secure data management within the organisation
  • Ensure all cash products and processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements including those set by the South African Reserve Bank and other local and international regulatory bodies
  • Manage cash product audit outcomes and strive towards zero repeat findings
  • Collaborate with clients and external stakeholders to validate and review cash product disaster recovery plans that will have minimal impact on the cash ecosystem
  • Implement good governance by ensuring that SLAs with clients and service providers are in place including contracts for information technology resources i.e., hardware, software, and human resources

Leadership and People Management:

  • Provide technology leadership to the team and ensure a common understanding of the cash product strategy and roadmap
  • Lead a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) reviewing their plans, programs, and initiatives identified and providing feedback
  • Manage the team’s performance by setting specific goals, assessing performance, conducting period performance feedback reviews, and ensuring the team grows through formal development programmes and coaching
  • Utilise talent management practices to identify and develop future leaders and retain current talent to ensure a pipeline of future leaders and business sustainability
  • Responsible for the planning, prioritising, and securing resources across the cash product team to establish a balance between technology transformation, product delivery, and ongoing maintenance and support of existing products
