Absa, with its rich history and regional expertise, invites applications for the role of Head of Product : Corporate Acquiring. This senior leadership position within Relationship Banking involves defining and executing the product strategy for Absa's corporate acquiring portfolio, overseeing its commercial, operational, and strategic performance.

The role reports to the Executive : Payments Acceptance and is based at Absa's offices in Alice Lane, Sandton. The successful candidate will drive growth and innovation, delivering insights-led product propositions that meet the complex needs of enterprise and public sector clients, supporting Absa's leadership in the evolving payments ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Commercial Management: Own the P&L for Corporate Acquiring, ensuring financial contributions align with strategic goals. Monitor pricing, volume, costs, and income to drive profitability. Develop models and strategies supporting sustainable growth.
  2. Product Management: Define and execute a differentiated product strategy based on customer insights and market intelligence. Lead the product lifecycle from ideation to decommissioning, ensuring alignment with client needs and industry trends. Act as product owner for agile teams.
  3. Product Infrastructure: Oversee the infrastructure supporting the acquiring product suite, ensuring operational resilience, security, and compliance across all acceptance channels in collaboration with Technology, Risk, Legal, and Operations.
  4. People and Culture: Lead and develop a high-performing, innovative team. Foster a culture of accountability, diversity, and inclusion, supporting talent development and wellbeing.
  5. Strategic & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the product portfolio in governance forums and external engagements. Collaborate with internal teams to co-create solutions and contribute to digital transformation, ESG, and financial inclusion initiatives.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years in payments, product management, or financial services, with 5+ years in senior roles.
  • Strong track record managing acquiring or payment acceptance portfolios.
  • Deep understanding of acquiring value chain, merchant ecosystems, card schemes, and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related; MBA or MCom preferred.
