Head of Music (Prep)

Uplands is a forward-thinking, innovative co-educational independent school located on a 110-hectare Estate in White River, Mpumalanga, that is committed to providing quality education to day- and boarding scholars from Grade 0000 to 12.

Uplands School is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Anglican Board of Education of South Africa (ABESA) and offers examinations set by the Independent Examination Board (IEB).

Uplands Preparatory seeks to appoint a passionate Head of Music, whose strengths will lie in good verbal and written communication as well as being an enthusiastic and energetic person.

The successful applicant will:

  • Possess suitable professional qualifications.
  • Ideally have proven IEB experience.
  • Display a clear capacity for the effective leadership of others.
  • Take a leading role in inspiring and growing the musical experience and talents of pupils at all levels.
  • Possess management skills to strategically plan and execute all aspects of the musical programme, which will include extensive musical activities, budgeting and staffing.
  • Embrace technology in the classroom and display a creative teaching style.
  • Have experience in a wide variety of performance modes such as musical theatre, vocal and physical work.
  • Plan and organise hands-on activities that encourage pupils’ participation, involvement and development to create a positive learning environment.
  • Be committed to continued self-development.
