Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Biotechnologist to head the Genomics and Proteomics Division in Cape Town, Western Cape. The role requires a visionary leader with deep knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and protein science.

You will guide a team of scientists, set strategic direction, manage budgets, and drive high-impact research projects, including diagnostics development and therapeutic discovery.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive biotechnology research experience, with 3+ years in leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of biotechnologists, researchers, and technicians in Genomics and Proteomics.
• Develop and implement research strategies for genomic sequencing, gene expression analysis, and protein profiling.
• Oversee design and execution of experiments to understand disease mechanisms at molecular level.
• Manage laboratory operations including budget, resources, and safety compliance.
• Foster collaborations with internal departments and external partners.
• Author and co-author research publications, grant proposals, and technical reports.
• Present research findings at national and international forums.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics.
