HEAD OF FINANCE (FULLY REMOTE) - CA(SA) / ACMA, CGMA

Our client, a leader in their sector, is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager. Working closely with the founders and reporting to the CEO, you will own financial operations, controls, reporting, cash management, and payments, while acting as a commercial partner to the senior team. This is a practical, high-impact role where you will set up efficient processes, introduce automation, and provide clear, timely insights to drive decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full finance lifecycle: month-end close, management accounts, forecasts, cash flow, and payments.
  • Build and maintain internal control frameworks, approval matrices, and finance policies (procurement, spend governance, data protection).
  • Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting, plus variance analysis and rolling forecasts.
  • Create dashboards and models (using tools like Syft, Xero, BI tools) to track cash runway, burn rate, margins, customer acquisition cost, and other KPIs.
  • Partner with the CEO and business leads on annual budgets, quarterly reforecasts, scenario planning, and board reporting.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on ROI and acquisition metrics, supporting pricing and margin optimization.
  • Own the payments process (supplier payments, payroll, statutory disbursements), preparing approval packs for amounts above thresholds.
  • Manage the in-house Finance Administrator (debts, creditors, reconciliations, data uploads) and coordinate with external accounting firms and auditors.
  • Lead statutory compliance and filings (VAT, PAYE, income tax), liaise with SARS and external reviewers, and address any findings.
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and working capital to ensure liquidity for growth.
  • Coach and develop the finance team, planning to scale the finance function over 2–3 years.

Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record of establishing or improving finance functions in SMEs or fast-growing startups, including controls and automation.
  • Practical experience across the full finance cycle: reporting, forecasting, treasury, payments, and compliance.
  • Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets / Excel) and familiarity with cloud ERPs.
  • Ability to present to founders, CEOs, and board members, influencing non-finance stakeholders.
  • Structured thinker with attention to detail, commercial instincts, and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working across multiple sites or in other African countries is advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years post-articles experience in finance leadership roles preferred.
