A financial services company in Roodepoort is seeking a skilled Head of Finance to oversee financial performance and team development, ensuring compliance and effective financial controls. The ideal candidate has 5-10 years of extensive financial experience, along with strong leadership and analytical skills. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the organization's strategic goals while fostering a positive team culture.
We are looking for a skilled Head of Finance who will have the responsibility to ensure the optimal use and allocation of financial resources to maximize financial performance within an appropriate risk profile in order to deliver shareholder value.
The incumbent further has the accountability to build a well-capacitated and capable Finance team with skills and acumen that will drive the organisation into the future through a well-governed environment, sound financial controls and appropriate financial advice.
Strategic Analysis
Establish key financial strategies to enhance business profitability through:
Financial Resource Optimisation
Portfolio Management – Liquidity and Capital Management
Risk and return assessment - business case approval
Strategic investments oversight
Engagement with Funders
Provide input on board submissions
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Perform financial analysis, reporting and management activities.
Ensure that the financial reports are prepared and delivered on time.
Review financial data for accuracy, correctness, and completeness.
Generate financial reports related to budgets, account payables,
account receivables, expenses, cash flow analysis, etc.
Make sure annual financial statements are prepared and are
appropriate before submission to the CFO for approval.
Together with the auditors, ensure that annual financial
statements are approved by the CFO for submission to the Audit
Committee & Board.
Provide technical accounting support to the team
Finance Operations
Develop standard and new accounting procedures to improve
Financial operations efficiency.
Timely reporting to all stakeholders
Follow up and action resolutions taken at meetings
Monitor institution and other debtors’ accounts regularly to
ensure timely recovery
Oversight of Fixed assets, Procurement, and payroll processes
Budgeting
Oversee the overall company budgeting preparation, financial
management and financial monitoring processes
Review annual budgets and recommend any changes if needed
for approval by EXCO
Financial control of the department and co-ordinate the financial
activities of the company through relevant departmental heads
Monitor and manage all expenses within the allotted budgets.
Make regular reports to the EXCO on income, expenditure, and
any variations from budgets.
Legal & Regulatory
Comply with and keep up to date with all the relevant tax
laws & regulations, and finance-related regulations, guidelines,
and codes of best practice
o SARS Tax
o SARB and
o NCR
Ensure the financial team follows the company policies and
regulations
Audit & Risk Management
Review and develop effective and robust financial policies and
control procedures.
Prepare the financial system for internal audit.
Prepare the financial system for the external annual audit.
Develop risk management strategies and processes.
Ensure internal controls and systems are effective and efficient.
Maintain control of the following areas: trade creditors,
institution creditors, debtors, finance Educational Business
Solutions, accounting, and payroll
Tax risk management
Stakeholder Management
Develop and maintain effective communication and positive
working relationships with the internal and external stakeholders.
Maintain customer satisfaction ratings at or above department
objective.
Manage relationships with Internal and External auditors
People Management
Provide inspiring leadership and support to the finance team –
ensuring a positive, innovative, and high-performing culture.

Work in collaboration with the HC Business Partner to:
o Capacitate the team (recruitment and training)

Knowledge and skills
Extensive understanding of GAAP standards.
An understanding of South African tax laws
An understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Knowledge of management accounting methods and practices applicable to management.
In-depth knowledge of financial software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required.

5 - 10 years of extensive financial or management accounting experience.
At least 5 years’ experience in a financial management role.
Experience in the financial services industry will be an added advantage.
Honours in Accounting and CFA/CA qualification or equivalent would be an advantage.
