Head of Department: Technical Services
Location: Midrand, GP, Gauteng
The Head of Department: Technical Services will be responsible for leading the technical team overseeing project delivery and ensuring high-quality engineering solutions in the design and implementation of roads, stormwater, and water pipeline projects.
This role requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic leadership, business development, and departmental management to drive the company's growth and maintain professional excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
- Provide technical direction and quality assurance in the design, planning, and execution of civil infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all projects comply with GCC, SANS, COLT / COTO, and municipal regulations.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure efficient and cost-effective delivery.
- Conduct technical reviews and implement best practices to maintain high engineering standards.
- Departmental & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and manage the Technical Services Department ensuring high performance and efficiency.
- Mentor and guide engineering professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Implement departmental goals aligned with the company's strategic vision.
- Ensure proper resource allocation and workload balancing to meet project demands.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary technical representative for client engagements, stakeholder discussions, and industry forums.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, municipalities, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure client satisfaction by delivering high-quality services and proactively addressing project challenges.
- Business Development & Strategic Growth
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities to expand KTN's portfolio.
- Support tendering and proposal development to secure engineering contracts.
- Contribute to the company's long-term strategy and innovation initiatives in technical service delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate department performance against set targets and KPIs.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to ECSA regulations, OHSA requirements, and all relevant engineering standards.
- Implement and monitor risk management strategies to mitigate potential project issues.
- Uphold ethical engineering practices and maintain regulatory compliance in all technical operations.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- BSc Civil Engineering (Master's degree is an advantage)
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the design of roads, stormwater, and water pipeline projects
- Registered Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA
- Strong leadership experience in managing a technical department and overseeing engineering projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, EPANET, and other relevant design software
- Leadership and team management skills
- Technical expertise in civil engineering design principles, construction, and project management
- Project and financial management skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting business relationships
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a strategic mindset
