Head of Department: Mathematics

The Girls’ College invites applications for the following position which will be available from 1 January 2026. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals who believe they have the required skills and competencies to take up this position.

The requirements for this position are:

  • A suitable professional qualification and appropriate educational experience in the subject
  • An excellent all-round knowledge of Mathematics and Further Studies Mathematics with a passion for the subjects
  • Experience in developing learning and teaching material and assessment practices as per IEB requirements and the needs of the students
  • A future-orientated approach to teaching and learning
  • Passion for teaching and for the young women whose learning you would be expected to inspire
  • A sound and progressive understanding of the South African curricula and international trends in girls’ education
  • An unequivocal commitment and ability to lead and mentor a strong, accomplished department of experienced teachers and intern teachers
  • Willingness to embrace rapid changes in education and an interest and ability to integrate ICT into your teaching and learning
  • Willingness to collaborate with other Heads of Departments to further the love of Mathematics and develop curricula
  • Promote mathematical excellence and extension of top students, and manage support structures for students needing assistance
  • An awareness of the nature of the school and a willingness to commit to its all-round ethos, co-curricular and extension activities
  • Experience in IEB Matric Mathematics marking (and curriculum development) is a distinct advantage
  • Ability to be flexible and embrace change
  • Ability to take initiative and to act decisively
  • Ability to inspire and encourage people to seek and maintain high standards of performance
  • Any staff member working within a school is required to have a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
  • Proof of registration with SACE supported by a sexual offender’s clearance certificate
