Job description

Applications are invited for the following post

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: HISTORY

commencing 1 January 2026

The successful applicant will report directly to the Academic Deputy Head and will ideally:

  • be SACE registered, with an appropriate university degree and teaching qualification
  • have a minimum of five years’ teaching experience in an IEB or similar environment
  • be an experienced educator who relates well to both adolescent girls and colleagues
  • be innovative and dynamic as a teacher, and have a passion for developing a relevant and rich curriculum
  • deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned History lessons for Grades 8 to 12
  • be an experienced IEB marker
  • display a love for the subject and be able to nurture a curiosity for learning
  • have a willingness to offer subject support and to have a caring approach
  • have a proven track record of an effective leadership role within a school
  • lead and manage the History department effectively
  • be open to ongoing personal and professional development
  • be a meticulous administrator
  • maintain accurate records and manage assessment schedules
  • be competent in, and excited about, the use of digital pedagogy
  • have evidence of Police clearance if offered the role
