Head of Data Management

Our Client, CAPRISA, is an award-winning global research organisation located on the campus of the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, South Africa. It undertakes research in HIV, TB, and Covid at four clinical research sites in KwaZulu-Natal.

POSITION INFO :

CAPRISA’s goal is to undertake globally relevant and locally responsive research that contributes to understanding HIV Vaccines and Pathogenesis, Prevention and Epidemiology, and the links between Tuberculosis and AIDS treatment and Covid-19. CAPRISA is a UNAIDS Collaborating Centre for HIV Research and Policy and is recognised as a DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in HIV Prevention. It also hosts the SAMRC HIV-TB Pathogenesis and Treatment Research Unit.

The successful incumbent will ensure that an effective and efficient data management service is provided. They will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, technical data management expertise, and management of the CAPRISA Data Management department. The role involves ensuring high-quality, efficient clinical data management services, providing technical support to clinical teams, overseeing clinical data, and ensuring timely database setup and programming for new studies. The incumbent will also be responsible for advancing data-driven solutions within the organization.

Minimum Requirements :

• At least 3 years of data management experience, preferably in a senior role.
• Experience in the clinical trials environment and clinical data management practices and tools is essential.
• Relevant Bachelor’s degree or 3-year diploma in IT, Computer Programming, or a relevant field.
• Experience in database programming in SQL on relational database systems (e.g., MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Access).
• Knowledge of computer programming languages such as C, Python, Java, PHP, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in leading a team.
• In-depth understanding of data management practices and tools.
• Experience with clinical data management systems such as DFdiscover, DataFax, Oracle Clinical, Medidata, Epidata, or REDCap is preferred.

Key Responsibilities :

• Administrate Data Management Systems.
• Maintain day-to-day oversight of the data department to meet CAPRISA and study requirements.
• Provide training to the data management team.
• Provide line management responsibilities to data management staff.
• Assist with study setup.
• Assist sites with developing and implementing efficient data management processes.
• Develop and maintain study databases to ensure data accuracy.
• Participate in designing and developing protocols for new studies or projects.
• Prepare study data reports.
• Provide regular reports to management, collaborators, and stakeholders.
• Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and practices in data management.
