JOB DESCRIPTION INFORMATION :

Job Title : Head : Data and Analytics

JOB CONTEXT :

Reporting directly to the Group Executive : Corporate Services, the Head : Data and Analytics will lead the company's data-driven transformation. This role involves managing Advanced Analytics, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, Data Governance, and System Integration to leverage accurate, trusted data for strategic decision-making.

You will oversee a team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers, collaborating with business leaders to develop data solutions that surpass expectations. Your work will influence high-level strategy and improve stakeholder reporting, making data a catalyst for business growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Data Warehousing, BI and Advanced Analytics :
  • Develop a world-class business intelligence and analytics function to support decision making and strategy.
  • Provide data insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create a group-wide data strategy to meet organizational needs.
  • Utilize business intelligence and analytics to advise on strategy and operations.
  • Monitor performance management implementation using data.
  • Ensure system decisions support the defined architecture.
  • Promote self-service reporting to minimize new report requests.
  • Review and approve BRDs and change requests impacting analytics platforms.
  • Ensure data warehouse and analytics changes are controlled and planned.
  • Assist in automating and optimizing processes with BI reporting and predictive analytics.

Success measures include: Defined architecture, meeting reporting requirements, developing management dashboards, and ensuring data warehouse analytics are aligned with system enhancements.

Governance :
  • Manage enterprise data and establish policies for compliance, security, and confidentiality.

Success Management: Policies approved by EXCO, compliance maintained, and data dictionaries managed.

Behavior :
  • Ensure proper data handling in line with policies and legal requirements (PAIA, POPIA, ECTA).
  • Maintain accurate records of data elements and sources.
  • Coordinate with internal/external tech providers for service continuity.

Success Management: Security procedures approved, data elements documented.

Data Integration :
  • Manage data integration projects from design to deployment.
  • Oversee API and ESB development and maintenance.
  • Implement and document data services, collaborating for digital transformation.

Success Management: Structured data integration, documented APIs, and ESB.

Reporting on progress :
  • Report regularly on project progress, adhering to deadlines and quality standards.

Success Management: Timely, accurate, and high-quality deliverables.

  • Identify and develop talent within the team, support training and career growth.
  • Assist in recruitment and ensure efficient use of resources.
REQUIRED SKILLS :
  • Understanding of database management, data warehousing, analytics, data lakes, BI, and reporting systems.
  • Experience with complex system integration.
  • Knowledge of business strategy, policies, and legal compliance.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Minimum 6 years managerial experience.
  • At least 5 years in strategic analysis and insights.
  • Experience with data governance, BI, analytics, data warehousing, and system integration.
  • NQF Level 8 Honours degree in relevant fields; MBA preferred.
