The Head of Core Banking and Applications will lead the operational, tactical and strategic planning, development, implementation, and management of Access Bank South Africa's core banking systems, channels and business applications. This role ensures that the bank's technology platforms are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives to deliver exceptional customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Impact on Business Results:
Direct: Lead, own and execute the end-to-end delivery of the Technology strategy, which enables the business to deliver against their strategic goals. Act as lead SME on all matters relating to Core Banking, Channels and applications through well maintained business relationships and 3rd party supplier management.
Indirect: Drive and support business revenue goals and ROI.
Requirements
Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for core banking systems and applications in alignment with the bank's overall IT strategy and business goals.
- Provide leadership and direction to the Core Banking and Applications team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
System Management and Optimization:
- Oversee the implementation, customization, and optimization of core banking applications to meet operational and business needs.
- Ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of core banking systems, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues.
Project Management and Delivery:
- Lead and manage projects related to core banking system upgrades, integrations, and new implementations, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define project plans, and execute projects effectively.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
- Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring adherence to service level agreements (SLAs).
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Ensure core banking systems comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies, addressing any non-compliance issues promptly.
- Implement and oversee security measures to protect banking applications from cybersecurity threats and data breaches.
Team Development and Performance:
- Build and mentor a high-performing team, providing guidance, training, and development opportunities.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
Policies and Procedures:
- Requirements in line with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics.
- Access Bank Policies and Procedures.
- Group Internal Audit Policies and Procedure manuals.
People management:
- Coaching and mentoring Junior staff members.
- Leave management of direct reports.
- Performance management of direct reports.
- Active management of poor performers.
- Ensure measures are in place for business continuity.
Academic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT management within the banking or financial services industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing core banking systems.
- Proven experience in implementing and managing core banking applications, with a strong understanding of banking operations and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated expertise in project management methodologies and tools, with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices related to banking applications.
Skills / Specialized Know How:
- Experience in the financial / banking sector highly desirable.
- Knowledge of technology-based governance frameworks.
- Knowledge of FlexCube (Oracle will be advantageous).
- Understanding of 3rd party integrations.
- Knowledge of support desk operations.
