Job Description

This role involves strategic interaction with senior management and board members within the Old Mutual Limited Group, focusing on compliance and legislative developments influencing the company's strategic direction. The incumbent is responsible for establishing and embedding an effective second-line compliance function, requiring experience in the short-term insurance industry and a proven track record as head of a control function for compliance.

Responsibilities

  1. Regulatory and Compliance Management in the short-term insurance industry
  2. Monitor and manage activities of a significant team, ensuring regulatory compliance by liaising with internal risk management functions and supporting the development and implementation of compliance policies
  3. Regulatory Affairs
  4. Implement the compliance framework
  5. Quality Management System
  6. Identify, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of current policies and processes within the QMS; contribute to QMS design; oversee drafting of policies and procedures; evaluate costs and benefits of changes
  7. Audit Compliance
  8. Plan and manage audit programs, address risk areas, monitor corrective actions, and escalate major issues
  9. Develop and validate new test methods incorporating emerging technologies and regulatory requirements
  10. Stakeholder Engagement
  11. Identify stakeholders, understand their needs, and facilitate effective communication of business information and decisions
  12. Leadership and Direction
  13. Communicate strategy and motivate the team to achieve business goals aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  14. Functional Strategy Formation
  15. Contribute insights to develop functional strategies that meet business needs
  16. Performance Management
  17. Set performance objectives, monitor progress, and ensure team and personal goals are achieved through performance management systems
  18. Organizational Capability Building
  19. Identify development needs, plan and implement training, and provide coaching to enhance professional capabilities
  20. Budgeting
  21. Develop and deliver budget plans under guidance

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in legal or commerce fields
  • Additional compliance qualifications are advantageous
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in compliance, including 5 years with a registered short-term insurer
  • Proven experience as Head of a Compliance Control Function
