Head of Commercial Finance

Our client is currently seeking a dynamic, financially minded individual for their Head of Commercial Finance position.

This is a critical role and requires a strategic thinker capable of driving financial strategies while supporting various departments. The successful candidate must have extensive experience working in the financial space.

Responsibilities:

1. Developing, leading, and managing all commercial activities.
2. Providing strategic and commercial input into the renewable business, including pipeline, revenue, and cost management.
3. Development of business cases including supplier proposal review and adjudication, business case contextualization and motivation, financial analysis and recommendation.
4. Reviewing actual project performance relative to the business case post-project implementation.
5. Commercialization of the business, including activation of the business opportunity, take to market strategy, commercial offering, and strategic development of the solution.
6. Working with business units and departments to obtain relevant building information to enable design of solar and borehole/water proposals.
7. Identifying areas where technical solutions would improve business performance.
8. Risk mitigation through effective controls, review of legal contracts, and implementation of sufficient insurance cover.
9. Consulting across business operations, providing mentorship, and contributing specialized knowledge.
10. Supporting the Group by providing input into strategic areas with various business units.
11. Development of process documentation, aligned with the various colleague engagements and best practice.
12. Supporting the budgeting process.
13. Providing feedback and input into large property portfolio acquisitions or disposals.
14. Advising, testing, and implementing new IT systems aligned to the Group strategy, inclusive of smart metering solutions.
15. Developing, leading, and managing all financial reporting processes and cycles, including timely and accurate financial and management reporting.
16. Financial forecasting and budgeting.
17. Developing, implementing, and running commercial funding solutions to gear projects with commercial funding partners.
18. Developing an electricity and water consumption cost recovery model and integrating it with utility management compliance and risk management.
19. Designing, developing, and maintaining financial controls and policies.
20. Weekly cash flow forecasting.
21. Engaging and managing the external audit process.
22. Providing input and support for special projects, including financial modeling and commercial review of special projects (e.g., mergers and acquisitions).
23. Providing support on utility-related regulatory projects, e.g., Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).
24. Managing team and stakeholder relationships and performance, including staff in own area and stakeholders outside own area.

Requirements:

1. Qualified Chartered Accountant CA(SA)
2. 8 - 10 years of experience in senior financial management in a major institution, preferably in the solar or real estate industry.
3. Minimum 5 years leadership experience.
4. Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms, specifically SAGE, Archibus, MDA, DealPath.
5. Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
6. Strong knowledge of best practice controls.
7. Analytical skills.
8. Ability to work under extreme pressure to tight deadlines.
9. Leadership and teamwork skills.
10. Strong technical understanding of financial reporting and management.
11. Ensure compliance with relevant Acts and minimize business risk.
