(This is a permanent position based in Newlands, Cape Town, or Braamfontein, Johannesburg)
WWF is the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organisation, with over 6 million supporters and a global network active in over 100 countries. WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, by conserving the world's biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
WWF South Africa is a national office that is part of the WWF network. We are a local NGO that has worked for 50 years with the aim of inspiring all South Africans to live in harmony with nature, for the benefit of our country and the wellbeing of all our people. WWF's work is for nature, for you.
Our work is challenging and exciting, and we love what we do. To join our team, you need to be brilliant at what you do, passionate, results-oriented, and have a positive attitude.
We stand on the cusp of embarking on Strategy 2030, which lays out three ambitious goals to be reached within the next 5 years, including doubling our annual income. There has never been greater urgency for impact at this scale.
WWF South Africa is a solution-driven organisation that constructively engages with government, companies, and individuals to meet our goal of a sustainable and equitable future where both people and nature thrive. In almost 50 years of conservation work in South Africa, WWF has played a leading role in aligning attitudes of people, business, and government towards the environment, resulting in tangible conservation outcomes.
The Head of Business Development & Marketing will play a key role in ensuring WWF’s financial viability by maximizing existing and ongoing fundraising initiatives, establishing new pilot fundraising initiatives, and phasing out unviable income streams. The Head will also lead a coherent and integrated marketing plan to support organisational fundraising objectives. The Head will work closely with the Heads of Communications and Environmental Programmes, and collaborate with senior business development staff and resource mobilization professionals within South Africa and the wider WWF network.
The role requires significant strategic, leadership, marketing, fundraising, relationship, and team management skills. The primary responsibility is to provide strategic direction and develop WWF South Africa’s relationships with financial supporters, including individuals, the business sector, public sector partnerships, trusts, and foundations.
