up to £100k plus package

Howells are working with one of the UK's leading Social Housing contractors that is recruiting for a Head of Bids to oversee their bid team based in East London.

Head of Bids overall purpose

The Senior Bid Team Lead plus 1M is responsible for defining and executing high-level bid strategies to secure contracts over £1M, directly influencing business growth and competitive positioning. This role oversees bid governance, ensures alignment with business objectives, and fosters a high-performance, strategically driven bid team. The postholder will engage at a senior level with key stakeholders, including board-level executives, to shape and refine the organisation's bid pipeline, ensuring sustainable business success.

Key Tasks / Activities / Responsibilities

Operational Excellence (What You Deliver)

  • Team Leadership: Oversee, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, ensuring excellence in bid execution.
  • Quality Control: Enforce rigorous bid governance processes, ensuring submissions meet and exceed quality expectations.
  • Workload Management: Manage and prioritise workloads across multiple, high-value tenders, maintaining efficiency and performance.
  • Bid Management: Lead the development of innovative, compelling bid strategies that enhance win rates and long-term profitability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement data-driven insights and best practices to enhance bid processes and effectiveness.
  • Governance: Develop a structured approach to bid governance, ensuring alignment with company objectives and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic Positioning: Lead the development of a bid function that positions the business for sustained growth in contracts over £1M.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with senior leadership to align bid strategy with broader business development plans.
  • Culture of Excellence: Champion a culture of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement across the bid function.

Financial Accountability (What You Own)

  • Bid Pipeline Oversight: Develop and maintain a rolling bid pipeline, ensuring strategic alignment and readiness.
