Duties & Responsibilities
- Setting and reviewing the investment philosophy and strategy: Define the investment philosophy for the corporation's local and offshore portfolios, considering insurance liabilities, regulations, risk appetite, and the solvency framework. Perform asset modelling and analyses to inform strategy. Review the Investment Policy Statement (IPS). Collaborate with the actuarial unit on asset/liability studies. Provide asset class parameters and asset manager specifications based on market analysis. Define asset allocation, investment guidelines, and portfolio construction, ensuring alignment with liabilities and risk appetite. Develop asset manager guidelines reflecting each manager's process and style, with risk and benchmark expectations. Liaise with asset consultants for research support.
- Implementation of investment strategy: Select, appoint, and onboard asset managers. Prepare tender, evaluation, and selection criteria compliant with procurement policies. Coordinate with asset managers, consultants, and custodians for asset transitions and reconciliation. Ensure adherence to IPS and guidelines. Monitor asset manager performance through reports, due diligences, and evaluations. Manage fund allocations to meet objectives within risk parameters. Oversee liquidity, cash flows, and rebalancing. Conduct performance evaluations of portfolios and contributors. Manage investment risks, maintain risk registers, and report metrics. Ensure compliance with all risk policies and assist in stress-testing portfolios for ORSA.
- Managerial responsibilities: Lead the investment team, establish processes, policies, systems, and reporting tools. Set performance goals and review team work. Maintain documentation of processes. Manage external service providers. Oversee daily investment activities and report to senior management. Ensure timely execution of investment processes and quality of reports. Manage operational and investment expenses. Forecast investment returns, expenses, and contribute to budgeting and strategy planning. Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and risk units for regulatory compliance and reporting.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Honours degree in Financial Management, Accounting, Investment Management, Actuarial Science, or relevant field.
- CFA qualification is required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in the investment environment.
- Knowledge of market systems (e.g., Bloomberg) and asset modelling software is advantageous.
- Experience in the insurance industry is advantageous.
- Knowledge of government procurement processes, policies, and Acts is advantageous.
