PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE
- Providing inputs in the development of the corporate strategic plan and ensuring its implementation;
- Evaluating country/project risks and determining premium rates to ensure financial sustainability;
- Reviewing and developing insurance products to increase business opportunities;
- Leading research activities focusing on the insurance industry, international economic developments, and trade and investment opportunities;
- Writing articles to positively position the Corporation's brand, products, and services across target markets; and,
- Managing daily activities to meet Unit objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, MEASURES & INTERFACES
UNDERWRITING FUNCTION:
- Develop and implement analytical tools to assess credit risk exposure by country/project and formulate mitigation strategies;
- Approve and guide recommendations for country/industry risk assessments;
Oversee the provision of risk reports.
- Review and develop insurance products and guidelines to expand market penetration;
- Develop risk pricing methodologies aligned with actuarial standards;
Provide premium quotations to financial institutions, exporters, and investors.
- Establish connections with Export Credit Agencies, international bodies, and public institutions for risk evaluation information exchange;
- Maintain underwriting parameters in line with international best practices.
STRATEGIC RESEARCH FUNCTION
- Assess economic achievements against dtic goals using impact assessment models;
- Identify trade and investment opportunities for SA exporters and investors;
- Develop data collection and processing methods using econometric and sampling techniques;
- Prepare communications and articles to enhance the Corporation's brand;
- Participate in committees, conferences, and trade missions;
- Formulate and coordinate the strategic plan of the Business Unit;
- Address ad hoc research requests from executive and board levels.
PEOPLE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
- Manage PEAR Unit operations and performance reporting;
- Implement Enterprise Risk Management strategies;
- Develop succession and training plans within the Business Unit.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Economics, Econometrics, or Development Finance;
- Understanding of Trade and International Relations is advantageous;
- Structured project and corporate finance training preferred;
- Strong communication, relationship management, and teamwork skills;
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and econometric modeling experience;
- Minimum 5 years' experience in risk analysis, project finance, or export credit insurance.
