Job description

Our client, a 5-star luxury game lodge in the Pilanesberg National Park is looking for an experienced Head Guide who is meticulous in all aspects of managing the Rangers department.

Summary Duties and Responsibilities

• Providing sound leadership in the Rangers department to ensure that all guests have an exceptional and value-added safari experience during all game drives.
• Ensuring all field guides perform their duties in a manner that fully comply with legislation pertaining to FGASA, DEAT and the reserve that we operate in.
• Ensure the company’s ethos and culture is maintained in the Rangers department.
• Continuously upskill and develop the field guides.
• Overseeing daily and weekly fleet inspections.
• Performance management and discipline of staff.
• Prepare reports and provide all relevant information to the General Manager pertaining to stock takes, budgets, fleet maintenance, vehicle safety audits etc

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a large 5-star establishment within a Big 5
• A relationship builder by nature
• A passion to train / mentor others in the guiding team
• High standards of service excellence and a passion for the safari industry
• Highly self-motivated and self-directed
• Naturally intuitive, with a collaborative working style
• Passionate about sustainability and conservation

Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Head Guide in a large 5-star lodge within a Big 5 environment.
• Nature Site Guide Level 2 a must, and level 3 an added advantage.
• DEAT registered
• Valid ARH, Firearm Competency, First Aid and PrDP
• Must have full trails, or a few hours towards completing, and VPDA.
• Wildlife photography experience a bonus
