Job description

East London Area – Eastern Cape: Our client is looking for a Head Grower to join the team.

Only candidates with the relevant experience will be considered.

POSITION INFO: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 4 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Fertilizer, poison, and plant illness experience
  • Exceptional leadership and management skills, with good interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong leadership abilities to motivate the team
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality services
  • Valid driver’s license

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Management

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership for all production departments
  • Maximize output of all production facilities through efficient operating procedures
  • Manage greenhouse climate and fertigation strategies daily
  • Train junior growers to manage crops effectively

Crop Management

  • Manage all crops effectively
  • Develop and oversee fertigation strategies and plant nutrition
  • Control climate parameters such as temperature and humidity
  • Identify and prevent diseases
  • Oversee daily cultivation, pest control, and harvesting activities
  • Ensure sanitation and hygiene procedures are in place
  • Arrange regular analysis of water and plant material for early disease detection and production optimization
  • Manage propagation and seedling departments
  • Develop and implement biological pest and disease control measures

R & D

  • Research new varieties and growing techniques
  • Conduct scientific trials to evaluate new methods
  • Identify staff training needs and develop staff
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to current production systems
